Foliar N16 and N18

As an integral part of the Flex Fertilizer System, the nutrition delivered by Flex foliar Nitrogen can play a major part in maintaining the growth, development, yield potential and health of crops. By combining Nitrogen with complimentary nutrients such as Magnesium, Calcium and Sulphur, plant response to Flex N16 and N18 materials is far greater than from Nitrogen alone. Uniquely, Flex N combines very high uptake rates with extremely low loss, giving exceptional Nitrogen Use Efficiency. This is further enhanced by the genuine foliar feed characteristics of the formulations. Trials show crop response from 1 kg of Flex N applied to the leaf being equivalent to 8 kg Ammonium nitrate applied to the soil. When applied during times of rapid growth or high stress, Flex N directly activates major plant processes, allowing plants to make better use of inputs, improving fertiliser and fungicide efficiency. Ease of application, precision targeting of essential nutrients and excellent performance characteristics combine to make Flex foliar N an integral part of modern agronomy.

Cereals

Flex foliar N has proven to be very beneficial in maintaining green leaf area, improving plant nutrient status during periods of stress and rapid growth, and optimising Nitrogen uptake for grain fill. Applied with fungicides at between 10 and 20 litres per hectare, a three spray program on winter wheat has given yield increases of between 400 and 650 kg grain per hectare, with significant lift in grain protein. In spring cereals grown for malting, a similar strategy has given greater yield increases while maintaining malt quality and keeping grain Nitrogen levels below the essential 0.2% threshold. Critical timing for all cereals is from flag leaf (GS39) to full ear emergence (GS59) although earlier applications, particularly during periods of rapid growth and dry weather, can be very beneficial.

Potatoes

The main role for Nitrogen in most crops is to build protein maintain green leaf area and promote the conversion of sunlight into plant food. This is particularly important for potatoes, were canopy management directly relates to tuber bulking rates and dry matter accumulation. Dependent on variety and growing conditions, potatoes need a constant supply of Nitrogen from tuber initiation onwards in order to deliver uniformity of grade, size and tuber quality. However, potatoes are sensitive to increasing levels of soil Nitrogen, which can affect tuber set and encourage crops to develop more above ground than below ground. Applied to match crop demand or integrated with fungicides, Flex foliar N provides growers with the ability to effectively manage the balance between leaf and root, targeting plant growth towards the production of tubers.

Oilseeds

As with cereals, targeting Nitrogen through the leaf of developing or stressed oilseed plants can deliver appreciable increases in both yield and oil content. Most oilseeds show an increasing demand for Nitrogen, Magnesium and Sulphur after flowering, which usually coincides with increasing soil moisture deficit and environmental stress. Conventional soil‐applied nutrition struggles to maintain crop nutrient demand at this time. When applied at 10 to 20 litres per hectare as part of both pre‐ and post‐flowering fungicides, Flex foliar N materials help to maintain canopy development, oil production and pod fill, giving yield increases of between 350 and 475 kg per hectare.

The ability of Flex foliar N to deliver a consistent supply of essential nutrients, particularly during critical times of growth and stress, plays a major part in maintaining quality of production in fruit and vegetables. Being able to supply Nitrogen on a little‐and‐often basis, in response to crop demand, reduces the risk of luxury uptake which can have a detrimental impact on growth rates, maturity, store quality, processing and flavour.

The complete Flex System

Flex foliar N formulations are only one part of the Flex approach to complete crop nutrition. Although capable of delivering significant improvements to crops in most growing situations, Flex N works best when used as part of a comprehensive strategy that targets crop nutrient demands throughout the growing season, from planting to harvest.
